, the ‘wise woman’, has since 1879 been the capital of the new and is a city whose roots date back to the fifth century BC Once Thracians settled in the city followed by Romans, Goths, Huns and Ottomans. In the fourteenth century the city was named after its patron saint, the Goddess of Wisdom. Today’s Sofia originated at the end of the nineteenth century. At that time the city’s appearance changed from one of Oriental, to European, when Neo-classical buildings and tall civic houses replaced the low-built Ottoman constructions as well as Communist building megalomania! Sofia is a popular city and knows how to captivate its visitors. Its historic city centre features the most splendid sacred building in the Balkan Peninsula of the twentieth century, the Aleksand-Nevski Cathedral, a huge structure that dominates the highest point of the city. At the entrance to the president’s palace, the changing of the guards ceremony is a popular attraction. Dressed in red-white parade uniforms with lace jackets and feathered hats that date back to the nineteenth century, the soldiers goose-step a pre-determined route. The transformation of Sofia into a lively, cosmopolitan capital has succeeded well with history and tradition still very much in evidence. Young, modern and exciting with all the flair of the mystical Balkans!

Marinating and grilling fillet. 2nd Segment In the tourist town of Victoria Falls to prepare chops 3rd Segment Braaing T-bone steak and serving it with sadza and pumpkin leaves. The Adventure is a 13-part cookery series in which the host, Roger, travels through the scenic backdrop of wild and urban Africa. On his adventure, he learns a variety of ways to prepare game meat and other rare delicacies of African cuisine. Roger also challenges viewers to try preparing some of these ‘unthinkable’ dishes. In each of the three-segment episodes, a chef prepares a meal of his choice, explaining every step to the host, who translates and simplifies some of the vernacular languages into English. Each episode begins with a naturistic background to whatever dish is being cooked. For instance, if a crocodile is being cooked, viewers are given general information about the reptile and the edible and most palatable parts of its anatomy. The second segment allows the viewer a glimpse of scenery and adventure before settling down to a step by step routine of the chef of the day’s culinary expertise. The third segment concludes the show with randomly picked tasters, who are either buffs or just trying something new and different, tasting the dish. The African Adventure seeks to promote Southern African cuisine to the world in readiness for the 2010 soccer World Cup scheduled for South Africa.
